A visit from some Essendon footy stars had youngsters at St Anne’s Primary School in Sunbury lining up to have a go at the game.
Footballers Sam Draper and Darcy Parish (pictured helping Mia with her hand ball skills, while Deegan and Molly wait their turn) ran a clinic for grade six pupils last Tuesday as part of the team’s community engagement schedule.
Chris Yeend, of AFL Goldfields, says the clinic was geared towards encouraging a new generation of players.
“St Anne’s Primary School was really happy to have the players come along and share some of the experience and skills with the students ahead of the upcoming season,” Mr Yeend says. “It was an opportunity for the kids to be exposed to the game.
“With the launch of women’s football being on everyone’s lips at the moment, it was a chance to draw in those younger girls who might be interested in playing,” he said.
