Dog lovers and their four-legged friends are expected to be out for a stroll at Paws in the Park next week.

Paws in the Park, usually draws a crowd of about 250 participants and their pets – a substantial growth since it started in 2006 with about 160 participants and their pooches.

Event organiser Kalinda McIntyre said the event was set up to help promote pet health in the shire and raise funds for the various not for profit organisations.

“Over the past 12 years the event has been organised by the Gisborne Veterinary Clinic’s staff, with many local businesses donating either their time or products for various aspects of the walk,” Ms McIntyre said.

This year’s family event kicks off at the Macedon Ranges council offices in Gisborne on October 28.

Festivities will include information stalls, pet photography, raffle prizes, entertainment and food.

Dental checks and nail trimming will also be performed by vets from the Gisborne Veterinary Clinic for a gold coin donation.

Paws in the Park has raised up to $30,000.

Registration from 10am.
