Gisborne Christmas light display

For the eighth year in a row, Sharyn and David Ward are inviting the community to enjoy the Christmas display at their Gisborne home.

The couple has spent several weekends assembling an impressive festive display, which invites passersby to wander right through to their backyard.

It features a light show and handmade santas and elves that children can play with and dress-up. They’ve also got a felt tree to decorate, and Santa and gingerbread photo boards.

This year’s display is Disney-themed, with several Disney characters placed throughout the garden.

In return for the festive fun, the Gisborne residents only ask that visitors make a donation to their collection tin for Gisborne and District Lions Club.

Sharyn said the Christmas display was the couple’s hobby, and they enjoyed seeing the happiness it brought to others.

Last Christmas Eve, the couple counted about 200 people at their property and this year they’re expecting even more.

“It gets busier and busier every year,” Sharyn said.

The display, on Olivia Court in Gisborne, will be open for viewing every night until January 8.
