Some exceptionally large tomatoes are growing in a Sunbury backyard.
Ljubica Bosevski’s tomato plant has sprouted fruits of a size that more closely resemble a pumpkin for the third year in a row.
Last week Ms Bosevski gave away a tomato that weighed 620 grams. But the heaviest tomato produced in her garden has come in at a whopping 996 grams – just four grams under a kilo – according to the Sunbury resident.
Ms Bosevski said the ordinary tomato plant was given to her three years ago by a friend from Rockbank and she didn’t give the plant any special treatment.
“I just water it,” she said. “Four or five tomatoes grow in one bunch, and then the branch breaks.”
She said her backyard, formerly farmland, was very neglected before she moved in four years ago.
