Getting back to the little things

After two years of lockdown, musician Kelli Brogan can’t wait to get back on stage.

“I love performing live in front of an audience, and I really miss it when I don’t have it,” Ms Brogan said.

Ms Brogan grew up in a musical household in Melton, where her mother and grandmother encouraged her to pursue her creative interests.

Those interests included musical theatre, playing bands and even competitive ballroom dancing, where at one stage she was ranked in top 21 dancers in the world.

But she said it wasn’t until 2015 when she decided to invest in launching a solo music project.

“A few years ago, I had a brain aneurysm,” she said.

“At that time I thought to myself: ‘What do I really love doing?’ Music was something that I always loved, but I had put it on the backburner.”

The following year Ms Brogan released her self titled debut album and followed up with her 2018 release ‘The Woman I Was’, which she recorded in the United States.

Although unable to perform of late, Ms Brogan has taken inspiration from the pandemic.

She said her recent single, ‘I Miss the Little Things’, was inspired by her experience of lockdown.

“I usually try to incorporate storytelling into my lyrics,” she said.

“People love a yarn, let’s face it. So for me it’s about finding the right style of music for that message.”

Ms Brogan will be performing as part of the virtual Sunbury carols.
