A community mural that tells the story of ‘living in the foothills of Geboor’ was unveiled during a harvest festival at New Gisborne Community Garden on Saturday.

Gisborne Church of Christ spokesman Marc Huggins said the 5 x 2.5-metre mural, made up of photos selected from a public contest held in February, was a celebration of the Macedon Ranges’ lifestyle and environment.

“It’s a bit of a snapshot of what it’s like to live in the area,” Mr Huggins said. Geboor is the Wurundjeri name for Mount Macedon.

The mural, which overlooks the community garden at the church, is visible from Saunders Road and includes written pieces acknowledging the area’s original inhabitants. Food harvested from the garden was available during Saturday’s festival.

The garden was established in 2014 to provide a communal space for gardening and produce that will go to families needing help.
