Macedon Ranges council is doing its bit to help prevent family violence.

The council received a state government grant of $30,000 last month to go towards the Macedon Ranges Elder Abuse Prevention Network.

The funding, given to the existing network, will assist in preventing elder abuse in local communities within the Macedon Ranges.

Statewide, $9 million has been allocated for about 60 projects and initiatives as part of the state’s Free From Violence grants program.

Women’s Health Grampians has received more than $44,000 to put toward recruiting, training and supporting women.

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas welcomed the funding.

“I’m proud we’re investing in the Macedon Ranges region to prevent family violence and all forms of violence,” she said.

“We’re delivering landmark reforms to stamp out family violence and this funding to local organisations will help drive community change and bolster these efforts.

“Family violence affects all areas. It’s critical to support groups who are working to change attitudes.”
