Free pad and tampon vending machines have arrived in the Macedon Ranges.
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas announced the vending machines have arrived at Woodend, Gisborne and Romsey libraries.
“This rollout means women and girls right across our region will now have access to free pads and tampons, close to home,” she said.
The state government initiative will see the rollout of pad and tampon vending machines across Victoria, with more than 100,000 packs of pads and tampons dispensed in the first six months of the program.
Once the rollout is complete, up to 1500 pad and tampon machines will be available at more than 700 public locations across Victoria. These include regional libraries, hospitals, TAFEs, train stations and other community hubs.
Councils across Victoria were invited to nominate sites for the machines as well, with a vending machine also installed at the Kyneton Town Hall.
Macedon Ranges council acting director community Amy Holmes said this is an important step in supporting women’s health and easing cost of living pressures on individuals and families.
“This initiative removes a barrier that many in our community face; many people in our community can’t always afford these necessary items,” she said.
“Pads and tampons are essential to health and wellbeing, not a luxury item.
“By providing free period products, we are reducing shame, improving wellbeing, and setting the stage for equality for women in our community.”
