Gisborne’s 3 Little Pigs cafe is offering free breakfast to local primary school pupils this month.

After breakfast, a walking school bus, run by parents, will escort the children safely to Gisborne Primary School and St Brigids Primary School.

Matthew Bacon, who owns the cafe with his wife Kishani, said the breakfast club was being trialed throughout December in the spirit of Christmas.

Several mums from Gisborne Primary School have helped co-ordinate the breakfast club after having difficulty running it at the school.

Mr Bacon said the club was a great success, with anywhere from 12 to 16 children enjoying cereal, toast and juice daily.

Mr Bacon said there had been a lot of community support for the club. Gisborne’s Bakers Delight has donated bread to the initiative.

Children who attend primary school in Gisborne are invited to breakfast at the cafe for the rest of the school year.
