Fire weather updates

With wild weather forecast for Victoria on Friday 9 January, Star Weekly is keeping you updated with the conditions in Sunbury and Macedon Ranges.

Power outages across the Ranges

There is currently a power outage affecting around 6270 residents, including in the Macedon Ranges.

According to Powercor, residents in Kyneton, Lancefield, Newham, Goldie, Woodend, Springfield, Pastoria, Carlsruhe, Woodend North, Cobaw, Pastoria East, Romsey, Hesket, Lauriston, Spring Hill, Kyneton South, Malmsbury and Tylden are without power.

It is believed the outages are due to lightning strikes in the region.

Macedon Ranges council advised that traffic lights in Kyneton may be affected, and enouraged drivers to take care on the roads.

Powercor said power is estimated to be restored by 7.30pm.

Council also advised due to the power outage in Kyneton, the Kyneton Administration Centre is closed.

Council said at this stage its phone lines remain operational and residents can call (03) 5422 0333 for any urgent matters.

Kyneton CFA said the station is open for residents seeking respite from the heat, with generators running.

Residents can charge their phone or have a shower if needed, and seek reprieve from the heat.

Kyneton CFA recommends residents to tune into emergency radio broadcasts to keep up to date with emergencies if electronic devices fail.

Sunbury outages

Jemena is reporting at least 70 homes in Sunbury are currently without power.

The cause is currently under investigation, with power estimated to be restored by 5.14pm tonight.

Cricket match changes

The Gisborne District Cricket Association said they are closely monitoring the fires in the far north of the district, and are working with clubs from those areas to assess things over the course of the day. GDCA said it will review the scheduled games at Seymour, Broadford, Kilmore, Lancefield, Romsey, Wallan, Kyneton & Malmsbury later this evening.

Pool closures

Due to the power outage and extreme fire risk, the Kyneton Sports and Aquatic Centre, Lancefield Outdoor Pool and Woodend Outdoor Pool are now closed.
