Film day big success

It was an afternoon of successes for Kindness to Elder Initiative’s World Elder Abuse Awareness Day’s Afternoon of Film.

The event, in conjunction with Kindness Initiative to Elders and Macedon Ranges council, saw many descend to the Kyneton Mechanic Institute for a screening of the hit film Thelma, hosted by veteran actor Ian Rooney.

Macedon Ranges local and former president of the Council of the Aging Victoria raised the inaugural WEAAD flag to open the event and gave an informative speech on how society can act on elder abuse.

After a short film on financial elder abuse, guest speaker Bob Nixon spoke on how to protect your finances, followed by a performance by Young Voices of Macedon Choir.

Two local identities spoke next, Shane Jacobson and Stephen Curry, with all three actors talking about their lives on film, before the screening of Thelma.

The screening was well attended, and the perfect ending to the successful day.

Council and Kindness to Elders Initiative would like to thank everyone involved and everyone who donated their time in the lead up and on the day.
