Emergency warning issued for Kyneton fire

The CFA has issued an emergency warning for residents near Edgecombe, Woodleigh Heights, Bald Hill and Kyneton as a bushfire continues to burn. 

The fire is heading east from Edgecombe Road across Black Hill Road, Edgecombe. About 40 units and six aircraft are trying to control the fire which began north-east of Kyneton about 2.15pm.

Residents in Edgecombe, Woodleigh Heights, Bald Hill and Kyneton have been told to seek shelter indoors as it is too late to leave.

A watch and act alert has also been issued for Baynton, Pastoria, Pastoria East, Sidonia and Benloch.

Smoke is visible in nearby communities. 

Road closures include Edgecombe Road from Ernis Road to Hallorans Lane, Blackhill Road north from Verekers Lane and Fordes Lane from Baynton Road to Edgecombe Road.
