East Sunbury Football Club will be paying tribute to its Indigenous players this weekend.
The club’s senior players will wear a special jumper designed by one of the players – Diquan Williams, who is Indigenous – when they host Moonee Valley on Saturday.
East Sunbury Football Club president Keith Osborne said the club started holding an Indigenous week a couple of years ago, but had upped the ante this year, with an Indigenous football to be used in the games.
“We have quite a few Indigenous players in our senior group as well as in our junior group,” he said. “When you are building a football club, you are also building a community.
“We are a multicultural community but it is also important to pay tribute to our Indigenous arm.
“We see this as our way of paying tribute to our Indigenous community.”
The Indigenous round will start with the under 19s at 10am, followed by the reserves at 11.50am and the seniors at 2.15pm.
