Nearly 20 drivers a day, on average, were caught breaking laws on Macedon Ranges roads during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
Police officers were out in full force on Victorian roads during the long weekend as part of the statewide Operation Regal.
Police recorded 58 traffic offences on Macedon Ranges roads, including 25 speeding drivers, 10 drivers driving an unregistered vehicle and three vehicle impoundments.
Police conducted 800 breath tests and 52 drug tests on Macedon Ranges roads, but no drivers were caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Macedon Ranges Highway Patrol Sergeant Peter Wall said he was pleased with motorists for not driving under the influence.
“Our main target was concentrating on drugs and alcohol, and then distracting offences and speeding offences and targeting the main arterial roads in relation to people moving about on their long weekend holiday,” he said.
“So for the Macedon Ranges, that’s primarily the Calder Freeway.
“We’re still disappointed in relation to the high-speed intercepts that were detected over the weekend, ending in the impounds of three vehicles.”
More than 8976 traffic offences were detected across Victoria during Operation Regal.
