The work of a Kyneton indigenous artist will be a “welcome” change from the plain glass doors at the district hospital.
Kyneton District Health unveiled its newly installed Aboriginal art, designed by Taungurung artist Maddi Moser, last week.
Chief executive Maree Cuddihy said the transparent artwork, installed on the interior windows in the hospital’s main entrance, holds great significance to the community.
“We want to communicate our sincere welcome to our indigenous visitors and Maddi’s work really helps us achieve this goal” Ms Cuddihy said.
“We asked local artists from the Taungurung clan to submit artwork inspired by their Taungurung culture.
“Maddi’s work blew us away and really captured our intention to recognise the history and culture of the indigenous people in our region.”
Moser has ancestral ties to the Taungurung clan and was inspired by the land for her mixed media artworks.
She said the piece recognised the clan’s relationship with waterways, the land, and the manner in which time continues those connections, despite aspects of country changing.
The artwork focuses on the 2018 NAIDOC theme Because of Her, We Can!
