A Gisborne craft group has gone above and beyond to give sick children warm fuzzies.
The Gisborne Presbyterian craft group set a target to make 100 quilts and donate them to the Very Snuggly Quilt program – which aims to gift up to about 180 quilts each month to sick children at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Group co-ordinator Glenys Ariss said she was proud to hand over the local quilters’ efforts to the program’s organiser Marie Lee.
“On discharge the children keep the quilts and take them home,” Ms Ariss said.
“These quilts become treasured items by the children and families and in many instances this is the first thing that is packed when a child needs to be readmitted to hospital.
“Our group exceeded our target of 100 quilts and were thrilled to be able to hand over 140 quilts for the program.”
Ms Ariss thanked local volunteers involved in the Pick up Stitches, Victorian Textiles and Logan Patchwork Fabrics groups who helped to achieve the goal.
