Outdoor swimming pools in Lancefield and Woodend have been spruced up for the summer season.

New shade structures have been put up in Lancefield, while purification systems have been upgraded at both pools.

Macedon Ranges mayor Graham Hackett says water saving initiatives, including the installation of dual-flush toilets, will be carried out in coming months.

‘‘We are lucky to have such great facilities and I encourage people to get outdoors and enjoy them,’’ he says.

Opening times for the swimming season, which started on Saturday and finishes on March 14, will vary according to weather forecasts, with extended hours on hot days.

Both pools will be open every day that the Melbourne temperature is forecast to hit 24ºC, except Christmas Day.
