Woodend CFA volunteers and their families will be rattling donation tins for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
More than 30 members from the Woodend CFA will be out on local streets and at traffic lights collecting donations to help raise more than $10,000 for the annual appeal.
Captain Mike Dornau has been taking part in the initiative for 10 years.
“It’s a great tradition that people get involved with,“ he said.
“The brigade itself has been doing it for more than 50 years. Volunteer firefighters, family members and our junior brigade gets involved as well.“
Due to COVID-19 restrictions in 2020, the CFA was unable to physically collect donations last year, and had to rely on a virtual tin shake.
“On average we would raise between $10,000-$14,000 a year in the Woodend area and last year we barely made $4000 so it is a big difference,“ Mr Dornau said.
“It would be nice to get between the $12,000-$15,000 mark. If we reach $15,000 it would be a new record.
“We have a new member of the brigade who is also a new father and he recently had to take his newborn son to the Royal Children’s Hospital and he was one of the firt one to say he wanted to give back.
“Most families would be touched by the hospital in some way.“
The Woodend CFA will be collecting donation on April 2 from 9am-3pm.
