For over 25 years the University of the Third Age (U3A) Sunbury has blossomed into a group fostering connectedness and joy among the town’s over 55-year-olds.

There’s now more than 200 members in the group, volunteering and promoting their activities and events – such as their line dancing classes every Tuesday morning.

U3A Sunbury president Marlene Cann said it was all about having a good time, and not taking anything too seriously.

“I think our club is vibrant, I think it’s growing. We’ve got tremendous people who love life, who love being a part of U3A,” she said.

“It’s an important part of our lives now… we’re at last able to get back together.

“[Square dancing] is about having fun, it’s about making mistakes and having a laugh at it, and enjoying being together.”

U3A is an international organisation promoting positive ageing, and for a small annual membership of $40, U3A Sunbury offers a range of speakers, day trips and courses including dancing, languages, computer skills, yoga and more.
