Cyclist dies after being hit by a car in Macedon

A male cyclist has died after being hit by a car in Macedon yesterday.

The cyclist, who is yet to be formally identified, was riding along Black Forest Drive near Blackwood Road about 9.25am yesterday when he was struck from behind by a black Hyundai sedan.

He was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he died yesterday afternoon.

The driver of the car, a 23-year-old Gisborne woman, has now been released by police pending further enquiries.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the incident and are looking to speak to any witnesses or anyone that may have dash-cam footage.

In June, three cyclists were struck by a car on the same road. A bike lane was added to the Black Forest Drive in 2011, only to be removed months later following community complaints.
