Macedon Ranges women have lent a helping hand.

The Country Women’s Association Central Highlands Group donated $5500 to the Royal Women’s Hospital.

Group president Amanda Millar said the money would be used to upgrade the family accommodation unit at the hospital.

“This is used primarily by families from regional locations who have a family member who is receiving treatment at the Royal Women’s Hospital,” she said.

“When family members want to accompany the person receiving the treatment, they can stay at the accommodation.

“That includes having children, partners or other relatives stay with the person to support them while they are receiving the treatment.”

The accommodation at the hospital has not been used for years as it was classified as being “below standard”.

“This particular funding will assist with the upgrading of heating and furnishing for the units,” Ms Millar said.

“The fact that it has been out of action for two years does indicate that there was a gap in the service levels that they were able to provide.

“Hospitals have huge budgets coming from government funding but there are also many things that fall between the cracks.

“This is just one little thing which can support those families at a time of the greatest need.

“We were able to give more than originally thought through the success of our fundraising.”
