Crime has risen in Hume and the Macedon Ranges, according to the latest quarterly statistics released by the agency responsible for tracking Victoria’s crime.
In the 12 months to September, the Macedon Ranges recorded 2713 offences, up by 16.1 per cent from last year in the same period (2336).
Criminal offences in that time period increased by 10.8 per cent across the state.
Kyneton topped the list, with a total of 754 offences recorded in the period, up from 551.
This was followed by Gisborne with 511, Woodend with 344, Riddells Creek with 197 and Macedon with 153 recorded in the 12 months to September.
The top offence recorded was breach of a family violence order with 380 reported.
Other theft, criminal damage, stealing from a motor vehicle and stealing from a retail store all cracked the top five.
In Hume, the total offences recorded reached 23,609 across the municipality, with a rise of 12.5 per cent from the previous 12 months (20,991).
Sunbury ranked third across Hume for most offences recorded, with 2892 incidents in the 12 months to September.
This was up from the previous period’s total of 2514, with theft the top crime in the suburb again.
Across Hume, stealing from a motor vehicle was the top offence recorded with 3620, followed by other theft, breach of a family violence order, motor vehicle theft, and criminal damage.
