A number of council operated facilities across the Macedon Ranges are closed due to power outages following the extreme wind that lashed the state over the past 24 hours.

Romsey and Gisborne libraries, Romsey Kindergarten and the Romsey Service Centre are among a long list of sites currently closed to the public.

A Powercor update from 9.45am this morning said that crews were working to restore power to more than 171,000 homes and businesses across Victoria with extensive damage done to the electricity network in several areas.

A SES Victoria spokesperson confirmed they had received more than 2500 calls for assistance in the past 24 hours.

Macedon Ranges council is currently providing support through its Recovery Operations Centre, where residents can seek information.
