Council calls for comment

Macedon Ranges council will be calling Romsey residents about the proposed installation of electronic gaming machines at the Romsey Hotel.

The phone survey, running until early July, comes after the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) recently held a hearing about the installation of the machines.

The committee was presented with evidence from the applicant, Romsey Football Netball Club, and those in opposition, including Macedon Ranges council.

In anticipation of the VGCCC’s decision, the council wants to receive additional opinions from residents on the Romsey club’s application, building on those received in a postal survey earlier this year.

The survey will be facilitated by the AEC group, who will be calling residents who live within a 10-kilometre radius of the Romsey Hotel at random.

The council will aim for a minimum sample size of 300 survey participants.

At the beginning of the call, the surveyor will identify themselves and that they are acting on behalf of the Macedon Ranges council, explaining that the survey is optional.

Earlier this year, the council invited Romsey residents and people living within five kilometres of the hotel to complete a postal survey for the VGCCC hearing, which concluded on May 28.
