Macedon Ranges local Bernie O’Sullivan has been appointed as the new chief executive of Macedon Ranges council.
Councillors voted to appoint Mr O’Sullivan – a former Institute of Public Administration Australia chief executive – at last Wednesday’s council meeting.
Mr O’Sullivan has most recently been working in the role of strategy and growth director at the City of Greater Bendigo.
Mayor Jennifer Anderson said Mr O’Sullivan’s wealth of leadership experience and understanding of community issues was what propelled him to the top of the field, following a national recruitment drive that attracted candidates of a high standard.
“We are very excited to have someone of Bernie’s calibre and local knowledge join our team,” she said.
“We look forward to working together on continually improving the delivery of a high standard of services and infrastructure to all members of our community, whilst we protect and enhance the local amenity and environment that attracts people to work live and visit the Macedon Ranges.”
Mr O’Sullivan said he was honoured to be chosen for the role.
“It is going to be highly rewarding to return to my home region and make a positive difference to our local community. There are great opportunities to contribute to an optimistic and liveable future for the Macedon Ranges, and I’m keen to ensure the community is at the centre of our work.”
Mr O’Sullivan takes over from acting chief executive John Nevins, who was appointed to the job last October. Mr Nevins will leave the council on April 21.
Former chief executive Margot Stork resigned from the council last August after three years in the job.
Planning and environment director Angela Hughes will serve as acting chief executive until Mr O’Sullivan commences in the role on May 10.
