The construction blitz for the Sunbury road upgrade will continue the fast-tracked transformation at the Goonawarra intersection to improve traffic flow and safety.

Works kicked off on Tuesday, April 11, with daily construction set to complete three months of work reconstructing the Francis boulevard-Sunbury road intersection in over five weeks.

The construction took advantage of the quieter school holiday period from April 7 to April 21, and works are expected to continue through to mid-May, weather permitting.

Sunbury MP Josh Bull said the works are part of a significant safety investment across Sunbury.

“We’re making Sunbury road safer for pedestrians and drivers by providing signalised crossings at the busy intersection with Francis boulevard,” Mr Bull said.

“This is part of a significant investment across Sunbury to get people home safely and with less delays.”

As part of the construction process, Francis boulevard is closed to traffic in each direction at Sunbury road until the upgrade is complete.

The upgrades include: traffic light installations, paving of new lanes, pedestrian crossing signals, signs, walking and cycling paths and new drainage.

Drivers and public transport users have been urged to allow extra travel time and be aware of the designated detour via Sunningdale avenue and Lancefield road.

There will be reduced speed limits and traffic management will be on-site, and there will be some service alterations to buses.
