Community lunch on the table at Woodend

Woodend Neighbourhood House is getting ready to put on a feast.

The organisation will be hosting a community lunch at the Woodend RSL on July 20, in a bid to bring people together.

The neighbourhood house has been running the lunches for the past three years.

Woodend Neighbourhood House co-ordinator Angela Van Dam said the aim of the community lunches was to help people make new friends.

“It’s a fun way to meet new people. We know that food is an icebreaker,” she said.

“There are all these people sitting at  home during the day, who are looking for  the opportunity to get out of the house and  do something, and we think this a great way to help people make new friends.”

Ms Van Dam said the lunches usually attract close to 80 people from across the community.

“We want to get the message out there that it is not just an old people’s welfare lunch. It’s for people from all walks of life,” she said.

The lunches are prepared by the neighbourhood house’s chef, with the help of 12 volunteers.

It costs $5 and Ms Van Dam said anyone who is “strapped for cash” should come along anyway because someone always pays it forward.

The lunch is on from noon-2pm.

To book, phone 5427 1845.
