A photographic exhibition has been launched in the Macedon Ranges as a family violence prevention initiative.

Facilitated by Swinburne University, the Lancefield Romsey ‘Stand Together’ campaign is on display at the Romsey Maternal and Child Health Service and Lancefield Bendigo Bank.

The project features images of community members holding up their personalised pledge to encourage health and respectful family relationships, challenge gender stereotypes and oppose gender-based violence.

Sunbury Cobaw and Community Health health promotion co-ordinator Lauren Tyrrell said family violence is no longer considered a private matter.

“It is a serious public health and criminal justice issue,” she said.

“We know that gender-based violence is preventable.

“By changing people’s attitudes we can begin to change people’s behaviour.”

Last year, there was a 14.4 per cent increase in police call-outs in the Macedon Ranges to attend family violence incidents.

The exhibit will move to Romsey Primary School and St Mary’s Primary School in Lancefield on May 31 until the end of June.
