Colourful symphony coming to Macedon

A symphony will play out amid the riotous colour of a Macedon garden this weekend.

The private garden of Dale Simpson and Jonathan Hazelton, at 3 Church Street, will resonate with the sounds of music performed by young guitarist Aife Pollard Larkin and the Saverio String Quartet.

Home-grown musicians including soprano Kristen Leich and pianist David Kram will also perform.

Mr Simpson and Mr Hazelton say they bought their home in Macedon for the garden rather than the house.

“We just fell in love with the garden,” Mr Simpson said. “It features a number of rare trees and shrubs that come from South and North America, China and Europe – just fascinating – as well as some beautiful Australian natives. We find visitors are intrigued as they explore the paths and come across unexpected nooks and crannies.”

The event on October 23 is the final in a season of performances organised by Taradale Music, formed five years ago to bring fine music to the goldfields region of central Victoria.

Castlemaine-based artistic director Marco van Pagee is an internationally renowned musician, conductor and music educator.

The garden will be open from 1.30pm, with three sets of performances during the afternoon. Local food and wines will be available.
