A transgender peer support group is being formed by Cobaw Community Health.

The health service has received funding through Trans Gender VIctoria’s SPARK (Support for Peer-Support Activities that Revitalise Kinship) grant, to help increase the health and wellbeing outcomes of transgender Victorians by creating new support groups.

Cobaw Community Health works with the Macedon Ranges LGBTIQA+ community through its WayOut and CLIP (Country LGBTIQ+ Inclusion Program).

CLIP project worker Belinda Brain said through their work and engagement with the broader community, a gap in the provision of transgender peer support had been identified.

“We are all very committed to supporting the trans and gender diverse community,” she said.

“By putting the call out for people to help get this group up and running we hope to better connect with our local trans and gender diverse community.”

While Cobaw Community Health will be involved in planning and the start-up stages of a peer support group, the direction, purpose and the shape of the group will be driven by community members.”

To keep within current COVID-12 guidelines, the peer support group will commence online with the aim to move to face-to-face catch-ups when possible.
