The Coalition has promised to improve public transport in Sunbury should they win the November state election.
Sunbury Liberal candidate Simmone Cottom appeared alongside Opposition Public Transport spokesperson Danny O’Brien in a Facebook video on Saturday to announce the FlexiRide service.
“Lots of residents have reached out because when they get off the train, if it’s delayed, the buses are on a timetable and they leave straight away, or buses stop at 8pm,” she said.
“So if you work in the city and you’ve been out for dinner, and you’re coming home after 8pm, you miss out of catching a bus home, so we’re really excited for this announcement today.”
The promised FlexiRide service will operate from 6am to 9.30pm on weekdays, 7am to 9.30pm on Saturdays and 8am to 9.30pm on Sundays and public holidays. The service won’t have a fixed route, so passengers can book a seat and be collected at their nearest pick up location to be transported to dedicated hubs around town.
“As part of the Liberals and Nationals’ integrated public transport plan, this will immediately connect Victorians to their places of work, entertainment and education,” Mr O’Brien said.
Ms Cottom said it was vital public transport kept up with demand.
“Our bus line has had the same routes for 12 years now, and it’s vital we extend the lines into new estates and extend the hours to help more locals get home,” she said.
