A young basketballer is shooting for a new goal.
Nine-year-old Scarlette Guarino will this year participate in the World’s Greatest Shave to help raise money for blood cancer.
“A couple of months ago, I wanted to just shave my hair and then mum said, ‘Do you want to do it for a cause?’,” Scarlette said.
She said when her mum suggested joining in the World’s Greatest Shave she jumped at the chance.
“I’m a little bit nervous because it’s my first time having no hair [but] some days I just want it shaved because I have to brush it and it’s all knotty.”
The keen basketballer, who plays for under-12 Sunbury Jets and Woodend Hawks teams, has been selling $5 wristbands at the Eric Boardman Stadium in Sunbury. She has so far raised more than $1200 of her $2500 goal.
Sunbury Jets administrator Erin Pearce said the club “couldn’t be any more proud of Scarlette”.
“For someone of her age to do something like this is a big deal,” she said. “I know everyone’s behind her.”
Scarlette will get her head shaved during half-time of the Big V opening game of the season, on March 16, at Eric Boardman Reserve.
