Forget the likes of Jamie Oliver and Donna Hay – Macedon Ranges pupils are the best in the cooking business.
Primary school pupils had their cooking skills put to the test at the 2019 Sacred Heart College Junior Chef Competition grand final.
Grade 4 pupils from St Ambrose, St Mary’s, St Brigid’s, Holy Cross, and Our Lady of the Rosary primary schools gathered at Sacred Heart College in Kyneton last Wednesday to participate in the second and final round of the competition.
In a Masterchef-style setting, the pupils had one hour and 15 minutes to create fresh fettuccine with a napoletana sauce for the judges. The Our Lady of the Rosary team beat
St Ambrose by one point.
The winning school received a $250 nursery voucher to go towards the purchase of plants for the school’s kitchen garden.
All competitors received a gift of kitchen items from Woodend kitchen business Mort & Pestle.
Sacred Heart College Kyneton principal Darren Egberts said the competition was a great opportunity for pupils to build on their culinary and teamwork skills.
“It was fantastic to see the young people so excited and engaged in cooking,” Dr Egberts said. “They worked extremely well as a team and practised their recipes several times in advance.”
