A classic Mercedes-Benz and an Austin- Healey were destroyed in a fire last week.

Woodend CFA volunteers arrived to find the garage of a Mt Macedon Road property engulfed in flames in the early hours of Thursday, October 19.

Four appliances from Woodend and one from Macedon were called to the address, with 15 volunteers working to get the blaze under control.

Woodend CFA captain Mick Christie said the garage was close to three units, but no residents were home at the time of the fire.

“Our initial attack was to protect exposures before quickly bringing the blaze under control,” he said.

“When the smoke settled we discovered two expensive classic cars had been destroyed in the fire.

“At this stage, the fire is still under investigation.

“Both cars were damaged almost beyond recognition.

“They would have been worth quite a bit. The investigation into the cause of the fire and where it might have started is ongoing.

“Thankfully, nobody was home in the nearby flats and no one was harmed.”
