Romsey’s Blake Meyer ranked in the top 10 in the Australian woodchopping championships last month.
Meyer placed ninth in the Timbersports Australian Champions Trophy 2018, held in Sydney in April. Making it a family affair, his cousin also made it into the top 10.
The placing adds to Meyer’s accolades for this year – he is also the current state champion for tree climbing-woodchopping.
Meyer won all three divisions at the Victorian Tree Climbing Champions, which involves chopping three metres up a tree.
The Romsey resident has been competing in woodchopping since he was eight. The family tradition was passed on to him, with his grandfather, father and brother having all been competitive woodchoppers.
He trains two to three times a week chopping wood on his Romsey property, as well as other fitness training. “There’s plenty of firewood at our place,” he said.
