A local dance and cheerleading school is calling on its students to tap into their creative sides.

Students at Signature Cheer and Dance Macedon Ranges have been provided with challenges and creative themes to draw while at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Principal Amy Citroen said the activities were a great way to entertain children during this challenging time.

“Most of our students have no school, no dancing, no cheerleading, no other sports,” she said.

“We are going to try and encourage them to do different things. We want them to do something and then show it off to the wider community as they explore all the different challenges we are getting them to do.”

Last week, students drew to the theme of ‘over the rainbow’ and ‘animals’.

“They are putting them [drawings] on their windows,” Ms Citroen said. “When I went walking with my girls around our little neighbourhood here in New Gisborne, there were other people with rainbows and other things up on their windows, which is good to see. I know some of the kids have been doing a bear hunt as well.”

While the students are no longer attending dance or cheerleading classes due to the virus, students have created videos of their own dance or cheer routine which will be edited into one video and sent out to students.

“We are just trying to keep everyone entertained.”
