Off the back of an exciting European tour, sister duo Charm of Finches are coming to Macedon Railway Hotel in September.
Between April and August, Mabel and Ivy Windred-Wornes were finally able to make their way across the United Kingdom and Europe over 43 concerts, showcasing their third album, Wonderful Oblivion.
Now it’s time for the Macedon Ranges to have a turn listening to their magical, harmony-laden folk songs – and the environment couldn’t be more fitting for the shimmering world they create.
“Where all our songs often stem from is nature, being inspired by nature and how nature can reflect emotions,” Mabel said.
“It’s really nice especially after touring for four months and seeing the landscapes of other countries. It’s so nice to come back to the Australian bush and rainforest and all the beautiful landscapes here.
“I think it’ll be so nice [to play in Macedon].”
When the pandemic wrought havoc on entertainment industries worldwide, Mabel and Ivy decided to record their latest album.
“We had a makeshift vocal booth made out of [microphone] stands and big blankets and doonas sort of like a cubby house… we sent all the files to a producer in Canada and we worked with him over the internet,” Ivy said.
The pair, who are now in their early 20s, grew up busking on the streets of Melbourne, gracing the stages of the Port Fairy Folk Festival and Queenscliff Music Festival since they were 14 and 11. They’ve picked up a swathe of awards, including Best Folk Act at the Music Victoria Awards last year.
Catch Charm of Finches on September 14, supported by Ballarat duo Coda Chroma.
