Celebrating Macedon Ranges youth

Macedon Ranges young people and their achievements and contributions to the community were celebrated at Kyneton Town Hall last week.

The 2017 Macedon Ranges Youth Awards were presented to 14 winners. More than 150 individuals aged 12 to 25 and 150 groups were nominated.

Mayor Jennifer Anderson thanked each of the nominees.

“It’s a credit to the region that we have so many talented young people here,” she said.

Ambitious filmographer Jock Turner took out a visual arts award.

The 20-year-old Gisborne resident developed an interest in film during the time he spent acting as a teenager. He appeared as an extra on programs such as Underbelly and Prank Patrol before deciding he wanted to shine behind the
camera.

“I made my first film for my VCE project back in year 12,” he said. “Now my long-term aim is to be able to direct features.”

Currently a film student at Swinburne University, two of Mr Turner’s scripts have been selected to be produced into film. He is also undertaking an internship with an ABC film crew.

Mr Turner said his focus for the future was producing short films to build his exposure and a career in the film industry.

The Macedon Ranges Youth Awards also honoured achievements in sport, community participation, Live4Life and business.
