The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t stopped The Combined Churches of Sunbury from getting into the Christmas spirit.

The group usually hosts a live carols evening for hundreds of Sunbury residents.

But restrictions on large public gatherings threw their plans in disarray this year.

Church committee member Vanessa Andrew said they decided to host Christmas On Your Screen – a virtual carols event – to give back to residents after a tough year.

“Now more than ever we recognised that the community needed some type of normal Christmas time,” she said.

“We also wanted the community to know that The Combined Churches of Sunbury were not going to let COVID stand in the way of celebrating the reason for the season.”

The virtual carols evening will run for an hour and will feature all the classic Christmas tunes that everybody knows and loves.

“We’ve gone around to the police and the CFA and we have filmed them all singing We Wish You A Merry Christmas,” Ms Andrew said.

“We worked off the messages of community, home, peace and love. All the things that are important at this time of year,

“For the message of hope, one of the local pastors will do a talk on hope and how it’s important an then a song about hope will be sung.”

The Combined Churches of Sunbury will also be raising money for the Sunbury CFA on the night of the virtual carols on December 12 from 7pm.
