Mental health carers in Sunbury and the Macedon Ranges can be assured they are being looked after.

Gisborne organisation PS My Family Matters offers support to carers and family members of individuals with mental illnesses in Sunbury and the Macedon Ranges.

The organisation last month received $13,500 as part of the state government’s Supporting Carers Locally Grants Program, which supports carers in regional areas and under-recognised groups.

The money will be used to run peer social support groups, Coffee4Carers and Pizza4Carers, which enable carers to meet and socialise with other carers.

The grant will also support the employment of a facilitator and coordinator.

PS My Family Matters president Tamara Wilson said the money would go a long way.

“This grant is invaluable to helping us offer a service to the Macedon Ranges to the numerous carers that our organisation has come into contact with,” she said.

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas said PS My Family Matters provided “vital” work for carers in the community.

“This funding will help make sure carers in the Macedon Ranges get the support they need and have asked for.”
