People have a rare chance to see Hanging Rock under the stars as part of Macedon Ranges council’s annual camp-out.

Campers can enjoy a barbecue, sit back and take in the picturesque surrounds, even try to spot nocturnal wildlife during a guided night walk.

Mayor Graham Hackett expects there will be plenty of interest in the April 2-3 event, especially from young ones.

‘‘[Kids are] amazed by what they can see on night-time walks in the bush,’’ he says.

‘‘At Hanging Rock, you’ve got all sorts of native animals living there. From wombats and echidnas through to possums and kangaroos – campers will have the chance to spot at least one or two.’’

SES members will put on a barbecue dinner and breakfast for a small fee.

Fees: $21 adults; $12.50 children; $54 family. Bookings essential. Details: 5421 1468 or www.mrsc.vic.gov.au/CampOut
