Calling all ages for a competitive Autumn plant show

Calling all green thumbs, gardeners, artists and aspiring horticulturists – an annual plant competition is back.

Prizes are up for grabs in categories such as the best perfumed roses, flower arrangements, miniature gardens and novelty items made out of anything that grows.

There’s an opportunity for every age group to participate in Mt Macedon and District Horticultural Society’s 2018 Autumn Competitive Show.

Society life member Greg Boldiston, who has been the show’s manager since 1994, said he was hoping to see even more children’s entries in this year’s show. Mr Boldiston began entering the show himself when he was just nine years old, and said it was always a fun and exciting occasion for children.

“It’s great to see the amazing array of ideas the kids come up with,” he said.

Mr Boldiston said the annual event usually attracted about 300 entries vying for the selection of ribbons.

Entries need to be lodged with Mr Boldiston by Thursday, March 15. He can be contacted on 0438 296 006.

The show itself will take place on Saturday, March 17 from 3-5pm, and on Sunday, March 18 from 10am-4pm. Everyone is welcome to attend, entry by gold coin donation.
