Major rehabilitation works are under way on the Calder Freeway between Bendigo and Sunbury to improve safety.
Crews will remove and replace asphalt at several locations along the Calder Freeway where lane closures have been put in place due to road surface damage from the wet weather.
Construction has already begun in Ravenswood and will then move to Sunbury, with works expected to take two weeks, weather permitting.
From next month, crews will start work at lane closure locations in Woodend and Kyneton, making it easier for motorists to travel throughout the area.
Road sealing works will also take place on the Calder Freeway between Bendigo and Sunbury until March.
The state government said these works are vital to improve almost 40-kilometres of road surface and ensure the road pavement is waterproof so drivers experience a reduced likelihood of skidding ahead of the winter months.
Crews are continuing to deliver long-term, large-scale repairs on the roads that need them most, with world-first laser technology also being used to assess the condition of the damage to the roads from the floods to inform additional recovery projects state-wide and ensure safety for all road users.
Sunbury MP Josh Bull said: “These works will better connect and link communities to the Sunbury area, as well as boost safety and improve reliability for motorists”.
