Demand for businesses to accept students for workplace learning opportunities is increasing as VET and VCAL courses become popular choices for Macedon Ranges students.
Central Ranges Local Learning and Employment Network (CRLLEN) industry engagement manager Lena Way said enrolments in VET and VCAL courses across the shire had increased significantly in the past three years.
She said building and construction, automobile, hospitality, engineering, hair, beauty, business and retail courses were popular choices.
CRLLEN chief executive Trent McCarthy said he was pleased with the effort Macedon Ranges businesses were providing to support students.
“As part of their VET and VCAL qualifications, students are required to undertake a certain number of hours of structured workplace learning,” he said.
Businesses, including M&Co Hair Studio in Woodend offer structured workplace learning and school-based apprenticeships or traineeships.
Sacred Heart Kyneton association careers practitioner Julie Matricardi-Old said she was thankful salon owner Megan Starasina offered workplace opportunities for the school’s students.
“Our students simply can’t achieve their qualifications without a local business prepared to offer them a placement,” she said.
