Budget for McEwen

The federal government handed down its budget on Tuesday, May 9, with McEwen residents set to receive an increase in Jobseeker, rent assistance and bulk billing.

Australians on Jobseeker, including approximately 12,500 people in McEwen, will receive a $40 increase in their fortnightly payments.

With jobseekers aged 55 to 59, including almost 500 people in McEwen, to receive an increase of $92.10 for their fortnightly payments.

Bulk billing incentives for general practitioners were also increased, which will apply to almost 70,000 people in McEwen, including; children under 16 years old, pensioners and Commonwealth concession card holders.

McEwen MP Rob Mitchell said the budget delivers on the government’s promises and provides cost of living relief for the community.

“We are also making an historic investment to strengthen Medicare, tripling bulk billing incentives, which will see immediate benefits to more than 11 million Australians,” Mr Mitchell said.

Almost 12,000 households in McEwen will also be eligible for a 15 per cent boost in rent assistance.

Treasurer Dr Jim Chalmers said the government is delivering on changes Australians voted for.

“This Budget is about delivering a stronger foundation for a better future, [including]… making child care cheaper, expanding paid parental leave, delivering fee-free TAFE, saving households money on their power bills, making medicines cheaper and getting wages moving again.”
