Sunbury BMX Club members can now enjoy a new pavilion at the Sunbury Skate Park.

The club’s pavilion opened on Sunday after four months of construction.

Club president Russell Hocking said the pavilion was “pretty spectacular”.

“It’s one of the best in Victoria,” he said. “It’s got a commercial kitchen, we have an area for people who do scoring and registration in an office with windows.

“We have a viewing area, we can have chairs and tables, and we can hold training and workshops on how to fix bikes.

“There are toilet facilities which normally we haven’t had one on site [and] we’ve got first aid
rooms.

“It’s going to have all the facilities that we need to set up and pack up a lot easier. And it’ll be better facilities for the riders.”

Sports and Recreation Victoria contributed $100,000 to the project, to go with Hume council’s $873,000 commitment.

Despite an act of vandalism to the pavilion a week before Christmas, Mr Hocking said club members were looking forward.

“The club is excited to finally have a facility like this because … we do a lot of hard work,” he said.

“When we used to hold committee meetings, we would have to look for other venues.

“The facility will make life easier for all the volunteers that help out at the club.”
