Spring into the new season with the Bolobek Garden Fair.
The beloved event has grown from its humble beginnings 20 years ago by the Mount Macedon and District Horticultural Society to now host thousands of visitors and many and varied garden related stallholders on the first weekend in October every year.
There will be delicious local food and wine on offer on both days including the fair’s famous passion fruit sponges, this year being produced by the Tylden Primary School.
While the fair has been held at Bolobek for more than 10 years, 2025 will be the third year it has been run as a community fund-raiser, with funds going to a variety of organisations in the Macedon Ranges most of that have an environmental or horticultural project that needs funding assistance.
These groups include the Gisborne SES, local scouting groups, Rotary, the Country Women’s Association, Macedon Ranges Landcare, the Macedon and Mount Macedon Community House, The Gisborne Botanical Gardens, The Kyneton Botanical Gardens and the Mount Macedon and District Horticultural Society.
This year Rodney Dunn from the Agrarian Kitchen, Australia’s 2024 Restaurant of the Year will be the keynote speaker. He will explain the philosophy which drives him as well as speak to practical issues relating to soil preparation, growing vegetables, harvesting, and cooking and preserving them.
Other speakers include Carolyn Blackman from the award-winning Vivid Design who will run question and answer sessions and Chris England from Merrywood Plants who will give a demonstration on the century’s old art of Espaliering.
Simon Rickard author, tour guide and plantsman will give tours of the garden on both days.
The Bolobek Garden Fair is on Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October 5, from 10am to 4pm, at Bolobek, 370 Mt Macedon Road, Macedon.
Dogs are not allowed, and tickets will be available at the gate as well as online.
