Bolinda Primary School students and staff were delighted to have their new bathrooms opened this month.

On Monday, May 12, the school officially unveiled their new toilet facilities, with principal Jordan Chamerski saying the ceremony was complete with a toilet paper ribbon cutting ceremony.

“All the kids were around and they were all smiling and happy as we cut the toilet paper ribbon,” he said.

“You’d think you they’ve been given a brand-new toy or something like that because they really enjoy them.”

The new facilities are a major upgrade for the small school, after receiving $498,000 from the Minor Works Capital Fund to refurbish and upgrade the school’s toilets.

It’s the biggest upgrade since the original toilets were built.

“The parents of the school (community) back in the mid ‘90s actually helped build the old toilets so they were pretty well due for an upgrade,” Mr Chamerski said.

“When I started here in 2023, it was probably one of the things I identified was that it needed to be brought up to standard in line with the education we provide here at Bolinda.”

The new facilities boast nine new modern toilets, with two facilities of three cubicles and a unisex toilet for students, as well as two new staff toilets – all of which are insulated and closer to the classrooms, much to the relief of students and staff.

“For our school, it’s really (showing) our school community we’re worth investing in,” Mr Chamerski said.
