Blooming good idea

Children at Brookfield Kindergarten have taken their first seedlings home to plant and grow.

Melton council’s Kindergarten Plant Program provides every child enrolled in four-year-old kindergarten with a seedling.

The program was designed to encourage participation in kindergarten and educate families about the environment and sustainability.

“The kindergarten plant project recognises the importance of kindergarten in a child’s development, and encourages our youngest residents to nurture, support and be curious about the world,” mayor Bob Turner said.

“The seedlings we provided are indigenous to our local area. I hope the children will take them home, feed them; water them; marvel in their growth, and celebrate as they bloom into something truly wonderful.

“It’s a lovely project that will ensure that these children will always have a special connection with the City of Melton.”
