Footballers, netballers and cricketers in Diggers Rest will receive a welcome funding boost this year.

Diggers Rest Bulla Village Cricket Club and Diggers Rest Football Netball Club will both receive grants of ten thousand dollars as part of the sponsorship program with Bloomdale by AVID Property Group.

Football netball club president Ben Morse said the sponsorship funds would provide important assistance to the club in keeping people involved in both their adult and junior competitions.

“It’s such a relief to know that we have that constant support from Bloomdale even before the season starts,” Mr Morse said.

“The grant money will go towards funding new uniforms, updating our facilities, merchandising and purchasing equipment like balls and tackle bags,” he said.

Mr Morse said supporting community sport was important to providing locals with a way to build new friendships and improve their mental health.

“The mental health benefits of being able to switch off, forget about all the stuff going on in the week, and enjoy a good game are so important,” he said.

Cricket club president Sean Fitzpatrick said the club will put the money towards merchandise and facility upgrades, as well as helping junior players and their families by funding a sponsorship program to provide equipment and uniforms.

“We’ve had some frustrating times for our families over the past couple of years with COVID canceling some rounds, but we’re looking forward to finishing the current season strong and getting ready for another great year of cricket,” Mr Fitzpatrick said.
